It's not a case of if I "remember" to crosspost - sometimes I choose not to crosspost to IJ because it's just not worth it. I have an LJ, an IJ, and a JournalFen account. IJ doesn't have enough people for some of my posts to be relevant, so I choose to exclude them.

To clarify a bit - I just never bothered to add all my IJ flist at LJ but nearly every single flist member on LJ is already on my IJ flist (does that make sense?). I only read at LJ when something is only posted there. I am permanent here, my friends are here. There is no compelling reason to go back.

Most of my work is posted on the HP archives, but I do have some LJ/IJ only work.

The LJ policy change is not going to effect me much.

I opted for Harkness in the last question because while Sparrow always manages to get off the islands, he's got a frightening ability to attract the undead or become ... mostly dead? No longer existing in the real world? And the undead scare me.

Harkness manages to get out of tight jams as equally as well as Sparrow - but as Harkness is immortal, if rabid monkeys started attacking us with coconuts, I could use him as a human shield and not feel guilty for it.

I still plan to do what I've been doing and keeping IJ as my main journal. I don't post to LJ and I basically only use that LJ journal to post to communities there, linking back to IJ.

My fics are on my IJ journal as well as my personal website.

Yeah, despite LJ's new rulings, I still don't trust them. Squeaky has proved to be a good admin throughout and he's dealt with a lot during fandom's migration to IJ. LJ has eaten my kitten.

Re #2: I pretty much post strictly at IJ at this point, although I still use my LJ account for commenting to other people's posts from time to time, and I have a few other accounts elsewhere for reading journals on other services. There's also the issue of this being my pen name, one that I don't share with everyone in my mundane life; when I journal/blog under my real name it's in a professional capacity for a specific website that has its own blogging software installed.

Because I have my own webspace on DreamHost, which is very liberal and relaxed about content (given that they're apparently the hosting service used by Encyclopedia Dramatica!) I decided a while back that I would store all of my artwork on my own space, even before the LJ drama began. That was actually because the LJ software's system of processing images, and how it assigns names and displays them, is very unwieldy and makes it take several times as long to call up an image as storing the same picture anywhere else; that feature on LJ and its clones has never been worth much of anything to me.

I envy people who managed to get their F-list to move here and stay here. I bought permanent accounts here for some of them to make the move easier and more enticing, and they might remember to cross-post to here once in a blue moon, but mostly they still do everything over on LJ.

I missed that announcement having been distracted by all the kerfluffle about the 'elections', thanks for the link to it!

I don't trust LJ as far as I can throw them. It all just seems to me to be placating the masses (fandom) so when the other shoe drops we won't protest too loudly.

The only posting I do on LJ is for a comm I am co-mod for and it's crossposted here on IJ.

All my fic is archived on fanfic sites but I've been thinking about making a journal on IJ for them too.

I do most of my posting here on IJ, and if it's important enough for my LJ!Friendslist to read, I post it there, too. With much censorship.

My fanfiction stays here on IJ, but will be linked on LJ, pretty much.

Mou...I like things here on LJ and on IJ. Sure, none of my journals or communities were deleted forever in the whole Strikethrough/Boldthrough thing, but I do not want to take that chance.

Anyone who trusts their work to LJ is a fool. This current turnaround makes me even more suspicious of what they are doing.

I keep my fic and screencaps etc on my own webspace. I don't feel that 3rd parties have quite the same interest in dealing with my assets as I do.

I've deleted all but one on my LJs and I'd like to get rid of that one soon as well. There's no way I'd support them again.

Basically, my main journal is on Journalfen and I crosspost everything that isn't JF-specific (like commentary on FW or some such things) to Insanejournal and LostJournal.
I never used my Livejournal much, mostly just as a place to dump my quizzes and memes. And that part I moved to IJ when LJ got too bizarre.

Not moving back because 1) we're way past the moment where LJ deserved second chances, and 2) my main journal was already on JF even before LJ was sold by Brad. So I can't really go 'back' anyway.

I tend not to ally myself to one site or the other, really... these days it all depends on where my RPs are at.

That in mind, regarding the last one: CAPTAIN MORGAN. See, in that case, I could obtain Jack Sparrow, and possible Jack Harkness, too. See, I have a cunning plan...

Question #7
[info]rood
2008-05-30 10:51 pm UTC (link)
Frankly, I don't trust LJ anymore. Whatever they say, I am inclined to believe that it's just a matter of time until they change their minds again. I said I would not post there again and if I make up my mind, it'll stay that way.

Plus, I don't really feel all that comfortable on LJ anymore. I don't read my flist over there because of the increase in annoyingly immature behaviour, and I learnt how to live without it just fine. I made my own website to host my stuff and, as a reader of fanfic, I re-discovered archives (yes, even ff.net).

I have high hopes for fannish projects like the OTW as well.

I don't really consider either to be my primary anymore. It was LJ. I didn't simply transfer to IJ, but now simulcast to LJ and IJ. Even minor posts gets simulcast, that way I should have a backup should should something go amiss. I do tend to read the LJ f-list more simply as it is larger than my IJ f-list and thus more active.

I really don't have any fanfic or fanart. I didn't get an IJ to host fan-items, but because of how amazing poorly LJ handled things over the last year or so. Sure, it wasn't me affected... but "first they came for.." is best kept in mind.

The recent announcement is about a year overdue to be taken at face-value. As it is, I very much have a wait and see what they really do attitude. I will continue simulcasting. It's been said that "one awshit wipes out a thousand attaboys" and while this might earn an attaboy or even a few, they've a themselves a big hole with several awshits over the last year or so.

I don't foresee immediately ending any account, and I have permanent accounts on both LJ and IJ. Had I not had a permanent on LJ, I might well have bolted earlier and handled things through OpenID. As it was, I stuck around to both get my money's worth and to be one more voice saying "Pull up!" while LJ was executing a powerdive it should not have. I used to occasionally give gifts of paid time or icon space on LJ. I don't do that any more. They earned a place on my "no more money for you" list. It's really hard to get off that list.

Who do I trust? I trust IJ. I am wary of LJ. I hope this new announcement is real and meant, and will be acted on accordingly. But I won't really believe it until I see it, and that can take time.

I left LJ in a fit of rage in March sometime after more of their ass-hattery, so I'm here to stay. It was a difficult decision and I miss my LJ friends an awful lot (only a few moved over to here with me) but there's no way I'll move back to LJ again. They're just too much trouble and I don't trust the company who runs it now.

Just for clarification: I would prefer to check my f-list here on IJ, but I checked LJ because it's much more active. I wish things here on IJ would become more active and people would start posting to all the wonderful asylums, then I wouldn't have to rely on my LJ so much.

Also, I do cross-post to my LJ, I write all my entries for my IJ in the first place.

I have both IJ and LJ with some cross with the flist, but I feel different about them.

IJ feels like a place I can connect with people, more than in a general way like I have at LJ. IJ is feeling more like a home and a place I can safely share my thoughts and not feel like they are being launched into the great void.

LJ feels huge to me and hard to get to know people, I try a bit, but I feel like I'm stepping into established relationships so I'm always the odd one out.

I've kept my LJ because of my Green Day obsession and a lot of LOTR stuff is still there, so it's mostly for reading, though I do post things some.

I'd love it if there were more of those fans here, then I'd hardly leave! But IJ is feeling more "home"

I don't write (though who knows? If I did I think I would post it here because it would feel safer to) or do fan art, so that decision is one I don't have to make, though as a reader it's slightly annoying to have to click on the "I'm over 18" button every time I want to read a story.

To add to my statement, I archive my fanfic and fanart on IJ and on my personal website and on several archives/galleries (ff.net, SkyeHawke, Mediaminer, Ficwad, DevART, Elfwood, one fandom-specific archive). I also will link to my IJ fic & art on LJ communities, usually with a reminder that OpenID permits LJ users to submit signed comments on IJ.

It hasn't touched my concerns. The "adult content flagging" is idiotic. It locks down fandom to the point where it becomes, over time, invisible. Regular users who are logged in don't know it. The "adult" flags are invisible to you, and we tend not to notice anymore how many of our friends are locking their posts or their LJs, or flagging for adult content, and how many (all?) of our communities are (or are supposed to be, according to LJ's TOS), locked down to friends only.

So newbies, people who don't have LJs or don't have them yet, don't even see us.

The problem right now at IJ is that IJ itself is low profile, but if that can change, and I believe it can, people who come here can freaking FIND us. At LJ, that gets more challenging all the time.

I have my blog at TypePad and I do fandom stuff at IJ. If either of those blogging platforms tried to tell me I had to self-censor with an "adult content" flag, I'd be out of there so fast your head would spin.

Like I'm out of LJ.

It's obscene.
