Want NAO

Yes, going to the BFI on the evening of the first showing and trying to get Deathly Hollows is probably not the brightest idea ever.

But we did get them for the 21st. Only a week away, I can last that long. Right?

Saw HBP tonight

There's so much I could say about it, but this above all else:

Draco's done gone and growed up

And his brother has a Drarry manip on his phone. *cackles*

I'm obsessing over this

Dang it, will somebody with some vidding talent hurry up and do a mash-up of the new HBP trailer with Doctor Who's "The Empty Child" before my brain explodes? It has to be done!!

Seque-free Sunday Post (Monday edition)

Hope all you moms and grandmoms and moms-to-be and child-free moms and moms of furry and feathery and fin-laden creatures all had a wonderful Mother's Day!

I am very glad that I didn't look at the label on the Ben & Jerry's cheesecake brownie ice cream when I was at the store or I wouldn't have bought it. 16g of fat -- 24% of your daily allowance -- in 1/2 a cup. I think I gained ten pounds just opening the carton. But OMG is it ever delicious!

Youtubey link of the day: Death Eaters Are On the Road To Awe. I've been meaning to post this for awhile -- it blew me away when I first watched it. The vid artist cast/recasted many of the Death Eaters; Clive Owen=Rookwood, Selma Blair=Alecto, Daniel Craig=Dolohov, Rachel Weisz=Andromeda, Naomi Watts=Narcissa (yes!) are some of my favourites. Then she uses clips from assorted films to create this hauntingly powerful video.

p.s. I am behind on comments on my flist -- apologies all around. I'd promised to send my fic to my beta tomorrow and after a huge writing spree today I think I just might make it. Just one more section to go... then it's back to life as usual.

World Cup thoughts

I've been consuming massive quantities of fic lately with the [info]hd_worldcup. Being asked to judge/grade them has been such an interesting experience, and I'm learning more about what I like about fics.

Long rambling on voting, preferences, and pet peeves. )

She speaks again

No, of course Charlie's not gay, Dumbledore is the only gay in the village!

Personally, I think JKR needs to go easy on the Little Britain.

(And does she have to sound so condescending? "The date of the final battle, May 2nd, if you've been paying attention." Um, well, if you were paying attention then you'd know that 1998 is the year of the final battle! Geez!)

Ottawa? Really?

An HP conference in Ottawa? I'm flabbergasted -- nothing ever happens here!

I was all excited about it and even signed up as a volunteer -- then I saw this:

Please note that while we truly appreciate all the hard work of our dedicated volunteers, we are unable to offer discounts in registration. We will show our appreciation in other ways, including a pizza party after the event is closed.

With the $300 it costs to register, I can buy my own pizza, thanks very much.

Seriously, WTF? How can they expect people to contribute their time to make something like this work, and not let them attend the sessions? That makes no sense.

Oh, well. Maybe I can go and eavesdrop from outside Slytherin-like.

Anybody coming to this? If you don't mind dogs and cats and a bit of mess, there might be a futon going.

Titles are too much for my poor brain

Darn it! I forgot to pay my phone bill. The bill's been sitting here on my coffee table for a month, underneath my knitting project that I haven't touched for a month. I really should clean more often. Or maybe just knit more.

I have to hand it to the ex. As much as he tries to resist the whole fanfic scene, sometimes he comes up with the best plot bunnies. He just called me up wanting an HP adaptation of Bon Cop, Bad Cop with Harry as the uptight Ontarian Auror and Ron as the Quebecois Auror who goes around muttering "caulice!" and getting him out of fixes. This thought is amusing me greatly. No one outside Canada will get this at all.

I can't believe I'm glad the weekend's over!

Hope it's been a good weekend for everybody. Mine was kinda rough. It started off on a very high note with yet another viewing of SGA's "Doppelganger", which aside from some really odd OOC moments (since when does Rodney fear whales?) is quite possibly my favourite episode of the entire series. And that's saying a lot. Of course there are only the two of them in Shepherd's dream ... as if we didn't already know that.

Then yesterday was all aflutter with the news from JKR that Dumbles is a Big Gay Wizard. Well, duh. )

Sorry for the rant there. I have lots more to say about more of the ludicrous things she "revealed" in that interview (if you're interested, here's a transcription: Part 1 and Part 2) but I'll spare you. All I can say is I'll have what she's having.

Now, when I tell you that I've immersing myself in fandom to avoid the RL craziness that is my family, you'll understand just how bad things really are. :(

Finally, at 11:00 p.m. I'm starting to unwind. This picture helped immensely:

from LJ's verav

And I posted Chapter Six of Architects of Memory, right on schedule. Not sure if I can keep up this pace, work's picking up drastically, but I'll do my best.

Now it's time to sink into Farscape and knitting, and brace myself for Monday.

The ultimate fan-art

The other day I mentioned JKR's asshattery (or "AnneRice-itis" as [info]larian dubbed it) in suing a community group for building a replica of Hogwarts. The Indian court told her to go stuff herself and the group finished the pandal.

And here it is! )

And truthfully, that's not even the most impressive one. Take a look at some of the other pandals. And I absolutely loved this look at the making of the figures. These artists are really something special!

The heavens just opened up, so I opened up all my windows. I do love the rain.

Oct. 11th, 2007

This really irks me: JKR's suing an Indian community group for $50,000 because they've recreated Hogwarts for a religious festival. See what they've done! It's gorgeous, and couldn't be considered anything but an homage (not to mention that it'd increase the popularity of the books in India). They're not making a penny on it!

I think they should just rename the structure 'Roke Island' and call the characters Ged, Jasper, and Vetch instead of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Not that JRK stole her ideas from anyone else or anything. Ursula would never get this bent out of shape.

Good news! The Delhi High Court just threw out JKR's claim. The organisers were told not to use her works in the future (as if they'd want to), but they're allowed to finish the pandal for this year and won't have to pay her anything.

Harry Potter question

I have two Deathly Hallows-related questions that I hope somebody can answer:

I'm confused )
