Well that was special

I was supposed to do another Winterlude post tonight. Instead, I ended up watching Georgy Girl for the first time. I had no idea. All I can say now is how happy I am to be living in this time/place, where even if misogyny is still rampant, it's hard to get away with touting babynapping and marrying an elderly lech because he's rich as a happy ending for a homely girl.

I hear ya, sister.

My obsession, let me show you it

For the past while, I’ve been wallowing in a new obsession: Elisabeth, Empress of Austria, Apostolic Queen Consort of Hungary, Queen consort of Bohemia and Croatia, etc. etc. It’s led me to read several histories of the late Habsburg era, as well as to watch the truly atrocious period drama Crown Prince. (And we shall not even mention how many times I’ve watched Elisabeth in the past month. In German and several other languages I can’t understand, but mostly Japanese. Because reasons.)

My last week Down Under

It's with not a little bit of shame that I have to introduce the Show That Ate My Life. If I tell you it's an Australian soap that isn't Neighbours will you think less of me? (But but but… there are kangaroos! And they say "mate" a lot! A lot!) What if I tell you it's a teen drama? (Less in the Saved By the Bell more in the My So-Called Life vein, but still "teen drama".) And what if I admit it's about students at an elite dance school practicing ballet all day long?

INORITE? How could such a thing be watchable?

Casting Catching Fire

After seeing the flawless job the casting director did with The Hunger Games, I'm sure I won't be disappointed with whomever they select for the sequel. But just for fun, because we've been tweeting lots about who we'd like to see, here are my picks. (All character descriptions were snurched from the wonderful Hunger Games Wikia.)

More Times Square pics

By now you've probably all seen the Eskimo kiss picture, but you probably haven't seen these because Jovan told us to save them for when ep 941 came out. But since they're published in Du & Ich, I suppose they're fair game.

The article's now translated, you can read it here!

Pimping post

Lately some of the new folks on my flist have been talking about their introduction to gay films and TV, and I haven't seen any mention of two of my very favourites. So since I have a huge pile of work to do today, I thought it was high time for a pimping post.

There. I hope that you've enjoyed today's random act of procrastination. Find these films if you can, you won't be disappointed!

A sleepy picspam before bed

Far too much time today was lost this evening staring at this page by Mabo. I'd seen icons from this set of pictures before (they're from the DVD which I will be getting as soon as I get to London) but I hadn't seen the full set before. Here are my favourites:

And I know I just recced stories yesterday, but here's one hot off the presses that you must read: [info]sarcastic_jo's A Most Generous Gift. What I said about fluffy fics? This is not one. This is delightfully twisted and creepy with just the slightest hint of Repo: The Genetic Opera. Which means I absolutely love it! Go read!!

This post has no purpose but to share the pretty

You know, when it's -11 out, the snow falling should not be wet! I needed to slog to the post office, but halfway there I gave up. But I did grab some cabbage rolls at the cafeteria ... mmmm perfect-for-wintry-days cabbage rolls!

Now I'm home, where I should be working because OMG so much to do. And instead, I've lost I don't know how long staring at my new girlcrush. Isn't she just stunning? *pets her shiny hair*

Happy Birthday Jo!!!!!

My dearest [info]sarcastic_jo was supposed to be in Italy on this very momentous occasion of her birthday. In fact, this was supposed to be us:

Alas, real life intervened, and instead she's spending the day at home with Captain Jack. Which isn't such a bad fate after all. But I thought she still deserved some of the finer sights of Italy.

I'm a lemming so...

I'm following [info]sdk and [info]omarandjohnny in wishing myself a Happy IJ Birthday! I opened my journal in June 2007, but my first post was August 5. I came here, like so many others, in the wake of strikethroughboldface. Some of my old friends came over as well, and I'm so glad that we've built something new here.

But the vast majority of my flist are people who I would never have met at LJ. I was just dipping my toe into the HP waters then and the LJ-based fandom was more than slightly intimidating. Here I felt braver and welcomed, and with [info]bbtp_challenge and [info]phoenix_flies and [info]ides_of_march, I've had a great time playing in this sandbox.

I've made incredible friends both in and out of fandom, and I'm continuously inspired by your creativity and all-around awesomeness. And I feel so lucky to be here with you!

*massive hugs all around*

And now, since you poor things had to listen to my rant about Brideshead Revisited, today you'll get to hear me go completely gaga about today's movies.

Mamma Mia )

So yes, movies. The perfect end to a crazy, crappy week. I'm going to read some fic now before bed to hopefully give myself pleasant dreams, but first I have some fun links for you:

* If you've ever worked in tech support (or, like me, have lived with somebody who does) you'll appreciate this: You can't arrange them by penis.

* I don't follow the Olympics, but I do follow Neil Gaiman, and he told me to watch this, so I did: BBC Sports' very cool Olympics ad. The bitey creatures reminded me of Yannick Puig's I Live On the Moon, which enchants me every time I see it.

Night, kittens!

ETA: I got an odd message on Skyehawke just now, it said that the site was infected and to avoid it for my safety. Does anybody have any news about what's going on? ETA again: Not good. I really, really hope they can fix it! I need my Skyehawke fix!

Brideshead Revisited. Or not.

I saw Brideshead Revisited tonight. Big spoilers, [info]omarandjohnny, stay away until you see it!

Country life

The Ex returned early from his (very wet) camping trip (their gear was soaked!), so now I'm firmly ensconced on my own couch, with Molly curled up beside me. It feels good to be home! And as promised...a pet picspam: )

Now I'm going to try to tempt my writing muse out of hiding. I'm hoping that some B&J banana split ice cream (possibly the most decadent ice cream ever invented) will do the trick.

Canada Day Picspam, Pt. 1

Happy Canada Day!

To celebrate our national holiday, I thought I'd treat you all to some of the natural beauty of our provinces. And, um, I might have got a little carried away. The result? Two photo-heavy posts of some of my favourite Canadians.

Behind door number one: Eastern Canada! )

What I did with my offline day

YAY! IJ is back! *clings y'all*

But amazingly enough, I actually got some things accomplished today. Seems like the most productive Monday I've had in a long time.

  • Finished swapping out my winter clothes for summer ones! Shorts and fishbelly white legs. Woot!

  • Caught up on client work. (No headway on that ebook, alas.)

  • Made lots of headway with my latest WIP. The non-smutty one I started as procrastination on my smutty WIP. I hope I get back in a smutty mood soon. (Note: My non-smutty mood only extends to writing; I am still in a smut-reading mood, and point you to [info]alisanne's just filthy story Dangerous Ministry Liaisons and [info]seleneheart's very sexy To Dream of Death as proof.)

  • Watched the latest ep. of the Tudors. Mmmmmm nekkid!JRM having fantasies fantasies about Jeremy Northam.

  • Watched that darned ending of the latest Doctor Who about 10 times to try to spot Rose's face, only to learn that I was looking in the wrong place.

  • Read the latest Under the Radar cover to cover. Love this magazine! This month's feature interview is with Flight of the Conchords, and in their photoshoot they're posed as famous musicians. They didn't have my favourite online (John & Yoko's bed-in) but here they are as Captain and Tenille. Or as I prefer, Muskrat Susie and Muskrat Sam )
And here's Mick and Bowie. We'll be swinging swaying. )

  • Installed CCleaner, which was great in that it freed up 386MB of space on my laptop, and not so great in that it deleted all my passwords.

  • Spent a long time trying to remember passwords.

  • Ate cake. Spice cake with cream-cheese frosting. It was really tasty.

Hmmm. Seemed a lot busier when I was actually doing it.

So what did you do with your offline day?

Waking up slow

Last night I had the sexiest, most graphic, most elaborate sex dream I've ever had. The only problem is that for the life of me I can't remember who my partner was. I'm not even completely sure whether it was a man or a woman. Whoever it was, they followed my instructions perfectly after I explained, a la Ianto, that "it's the button on the top."

Since I'm still enjoying the afterglow trying to wake up, I went and did that book meme thing. Read all about it. )

Finally, I meant to post this earlier but got distracted. Thanks so much to [info]muppet who sent it to me and brightened my day!! Sam and Gene, looking dapper. )

Eye-popping pretty

I didn't get enough sleep last night, so here's a little something to perk me (and hopefully you) up.

Bring on the Bro-yay! )

Girl Crush

[info]omarandjohnny said we need some IJ fun this weekend. I couldn't agree more. I'm going to start with some of the most beautiful women in the world. (Lots of lj-cuts for slow connections.)

I'm in love with Dana Scully all over again. )

Head Girl to Bond Girl. )

Wednesday, I'm in love. )

I still haven't recovered from that last episode. )

My favourite companion by a long shot. )

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: the show that could inspire me to write femmeslash. )

I had to go and mention Buffy/Faith, didn't I? )

Do me, Dame Vaako )

The woman I picture when I hear the word 'Goddess'. )

So who do you lust?
