Five happy things

I'm always grumping these days, I want to share some happy things for a change.

Happy Thing #1: And Then The Heroes Came Along: Superman and Batman land in the Pegasus Galaxy. Yeah, my head just went splodey over that idea, too. Very witty, lots of fanboy fun, and Batman in a jumper, wow!

Happy Thing #2: So as not to leave out my other favourite superhero, Wes Anderson does Spiderman. Perfectly done!

Happy Thing #3: Argentina, AWZ-style, where apparently mariachi music plays 24/7 and it's impossible to remove mustard stains from shirts. Oh, Axel, you have been missed. (Also, you totes know that if Axel was stuck down there, he would have called Nina long ago and begged for help. Hopefully he did and her girlfriend wouldn't let her out of bed to take the call.)

Happy Thing #4: [profile] redcouchaddict has been a vidding maniac lately! My favourite's this one: Walk Through the Fire, where AWZ goes Buffy. It's inspiring me to procastinate with a heartbreaking MaJe video response... not that I have TIME FOR THIS MIND YOU.

Happy Thing #5: I am learning lots of useful new German words like sklaventreiber. Which means I must go back to work now. But in a much better mood.

Yes, I know, another soapy post

Why do I love Alles was zählt so much? The incredibly talented [info - personal] shellydkitty has the answer to that question, in video form:

On a completely different note, are any of my Ottawa peeps in town for the long weekend? And if so, are you interested in heading up to the Hill and watching hot air balloons and eating gelato? It's supposed to be gorgeous both days, and I'm determined to squeeze every last drop out of this summer.

Rediscovering fandom squeee

Because my writing muse is deader than a doornail despite some fabulous pictures from the MCM Expo, I've decided to bury myself in our lovely DIY fandom. So here's a vid rec and some self-pimping!

First, [info] - personalshellydkitty made a gorgeously heartbreaking video: Jenny's In Love. It's about one of AWZ's main characters, who is stunning herself but in Shelly's hands becomes absolutely radiant. I'm just wowed by how good she's gotten at vidding!

Also, the music is by Botany Bay, who are new to me -- their music is available for free download and it's really good stuff.

And here's my own latest vidding attempt. I made this for [info] - personalshellydkitty's mom because she loves Deniz. And apparently doesn't mind all the boykissing -- of which there is plenty. YAY! It's about how Deniz continually fucks up leads Roman on, accidentally...or not. And the song was too perfect to pass up! (Richard Thompson's version, please note!)

And [info] - personalaldiara is back from her far-too-long vacation. Two days away! Unacceptable! Especially when there was massive squeeing to do! OH! I almost forgot to mention!! Eskimo Kiss Project just celebrated our six month anniversary AND we just passed 1000 subscriptions! I am so amazingly proud of our tiny fandom!! *cuddles it until it squeals*

Hope you're all enjoying your weekends!

Timmy/Deniz together at last!

Good morning! *hands out donuts*

Now that I've got your attention, please go take a look at [info]shellydkitty's awesome video!

I love my Timmy, and I love that she's revealed his canon crush on Deniz. BECAUSE IT WAS ALWAYS THERE! Stupid show just didn't know what to do with it! Yes.

Day 8 of Happiness

I never did finish that happiness meme -- I have absolutely no staying power (this is why me and diets don't mix), but I do have some happiness to share so let's get down to it:

So there! Meme's done, I can cross at least one thing off the list!

This is my brain ATM

Time for a disjointed post, facilitated through interpretative dance. Um, I mean bulletpoints. Divided into thematic divisions, of course, because I desperately need to control some part of my life.

Merlin )
AWZ )
Other )

There were other bits and bobs I wanted to include in random post of randomness but the sticky notes have fallen off my brain and gotten lost in the clutter of obscure trivia and strings of miscellaneous foreign words. Gone forever.

Hope you're all enjoying your weekends!

I've been outwitted by a stapler

They do say staplers are very intelligent. This one is -- it has a button that you might *think* would open it, but no. It has ridges that you might be able to pull to open it, but they're too narrow for my fingers. Gack!

In other not-so-bright news, I was being all efficient and finished my taxes, Canada and U.S., and even took them to the mailbox tonight -- one less thing to do tomorrow. Except that I forgot to attach my cheque to the Canadian return. I figured out how to do it online, but it was still a big "Doh!" moment.

Nonetheless, I've gotten loads done today. Packing a month's wardrobe in a carry-on isn't easy, but [info]takhys's brilliant plastic baggie method is letting me cram lots more in. I'll do the final culling tomorrow (obviously) but it now looks possible. I've got a bigger memory card for my camera, printed out my itinerary and all the stuff I'll need along the way, packed all my presents (save the bottle of rye I must pick up tomorrow), and my flashdrive's well-stocked with videos, fics to read, and fics to write. *groan*

I'd really hoped to contribute something to [info]ides_of_march, but that was apparently a big part of yesterday's stress. (Staring paralysed at the computer, fearing that everyone will forget everything I've ever written if I don't post a fic before leaving, is not conducive to writing smut!) But there was some great stuff written today, including Silver Thaw, [info]aldiara's latest chapter of "In This Home on Ice." It's wickedly hot -- and really, who doesn't love hypothermia fic? And then [info]kabal42 wrote a great missing scene from "Valiant", The Wrong Helmet (which I want to type as "The Wrong Trousers" and omg that'd be a great crossover for the Black Knight), when I asked how Arthur reacted to Merlin's screw up. (Plus I just really like hanging out at Kabal's journal to look at the banner. I love that picture -- it was done by the BBC, with a smaller table than is used in the episode, and I just have such fun imagining what instructions the photographer gave to get them to look at each other like that.)

OK, puttering calls, must run. *smooches all around* I hope you all had fabulous weekends!

FIC REC FIC REC FIC REC

The entirely-too-fabulous [info]aldiara wrote me the shiniest birthday fic in the entire world!! It's called Fairy Dust! Just take a look at this summary: Peter Pan Night at Homolulu’s! Glitter, fairies, pirates and Buttery Nipples. Also, sex. And more glitter. (“Because”, as the lovely birthday girl stated whilst fangirling over Velvet Goldmine, “there’s just not enough glitter!”)

Seriously, people! Pirates! Fairies! GLITTER! Even if you're not a DeRo fan you really should read this (in private, and with nothing to disturb you) because nobody writes SCORCHING HOT PORN like Aldi! *loves her immensely and probably quite inappropriately*

And did I mention that it's got GLITTER! *glees insanely*

Two great fic recs!!

Wheee! I got porn! Really scorching hot smexxy bathtime Merlin porn!! [info]sarcastic_jo finally succumbed to my incessant whining and wrote No Ordinary Servant to shut me up because I was miserable with work. I don't mind being miserable, really, if this is what comes of it!

Please go read it, and please tell her that she needs to be writing more Merlin fics (especially that pretty pile of Arthur-Merlin-Morgana-Gwen-Lancelot that she keeps dangling in front of me).

And... *smacks self* I have been totally remiss in forgetting to mention that [info]sdk wrote a ficlet off a prompt I'd given her: Closing Time, which is an absolutely gorgeous little moment between AWZ's Marian and Nadja, a.k.a. my het OTP. Go read, this is good stuff!

Some pissiness and some snuggles

Well I got my coffee first thing this morning, so my wheels were spinning all day. I did loads upon loads of laundry, hours upon hours of work, and caught up on schmaltzy vampires with [info]sarcastic_jo. *snuggles her lots for surviving time with the family*

Now I have a question for you eBay-savvy folks. As you may recall, two weeks ago I won Ingo on eBay. Two weeks on and I still don't have him in my hot little hands. Apparently the seller is having some trouble getting Win XP installed -- I emailed him again today and he said he's going to get help from a friend. He asked me to be patient; I'm not a patient person. *sneer* So what's the protocol here? Can/should I cancel the sale? How long should I wait? Fortunately I haven't paid yet (he's local so we were going to meet up) so I'm not worried about that, but I hate buying something and not being able to fondle it.

While we're on the pissiness, there's my friend in London, who last week I emailed to let her know that I'd bought her a ticket to James McAvoy's play. I expected at least a thanks, if not an ear-piercing squeal, but so far I've heard nothingnadazip. *is grumbly*

But on the good side, my cat is exceedingly snuggly tonight (is snoozing on my chest as I write this even), I have an extra-strong rye & ginger, and [info]aldiara wrote a really lovely DeRo ficlet that crawls right inside Deniz's head and peeks out through his eyes. Beautiful! So today's not entirely a wash.

ETA: [info]randombastery just turned my night to *fabulous* with this link: Man Submits Drawing In Place of Payment. OMG this is *genius*!

Finally, the weekend!

Hmmm. I took Rudy to the dog park this afternoon, where we met a woman who had a sheltie as well. Sheltie people have to gab, you know, and her dog was *beautiful*. (Unlike my ungroomed mess of a pup.) Anyway, she asked where I lived, and when I told her, she said that she'd been attacked right across the street from my apartment by a man who didn't like her dog being on "his property" (the sidewalk in front of his condo). And when I say attacked, I mean he hit her and had her pinned on the ground. Some people helped her, and the police came and nabbed him, but turns out he attacked another woman with her dog -- and *kicked* her dog several times!! -- before this. He's being charged, but now I'm more than a little freaked out. I walk Rudy along that way a couple of times a day. Or I did, I think I'll be changing my route. WTF is *wrong* with people like that?!!

But on to happier things. First off, it's Friday, how great is that? This week definitely overstayed its welcome. I'm looking forward to a weekend of reading, writing, and brunching with my slasher girls.

Speaking of writing, it's going ... well, it's going. I don't usually do fic recaps here, but I want to keep track of what I've got to show for myself after the first week of WriSoMiFu:

Inevitable (Harry/Draco, R, double-drabble)
Refuge (Draco, Gen, drabble)
Dawning (Deniz/Roman, Gen, drabble)
The Best Thing About Halloween (Harry/Draco, Gen, drabble)

I may be able to add to that total tonight with a longer fic, as I'm so close to finishing another. The ending just keeps eluding my grasp. *wrestles it to the ground*

And I've been reading some amazing stuff recently:

[info]aldiara wrote Different, an Alles Was Zählt fic that just stole my breath away. It does not matter in the least if you don't know this pairing -- this is one of the best first-time stories I've ever read, chock-full of humour and clumsy head-bumps. And if you know the characters at all, you'll see what a tremendous job she does in getting into their heads. It's a scary and beautiful place. Go read it! I command you!

Speaking of smut, [info]pushdragon finally posted the third installment of her Tale of Horns series (here are parts One and Two -- remember the sexy Quidditch calendar? Draco all hot and bothered?) Push says this yummy addition, Claws That Catch, will be her last H/D, which makes me very sad. I think her story The Astronaut Phase will always be one of my favourite tales.

I'm also about halfway through [info]furiosity's Interregnum and I'm loving it. It's all about what would happen if magic was "outed" -- how the world would change. Really different and incredibly imaginative. I'm not holding out hope for a happy ending -- her stories always manage to break my heart at the end, but it's worth it.

~~~~~
And finally, in a desperate attempt to lure my darling [info]goddessriss out of hiding (what are you doing? admit it, you're already putting up Christmas decorations, aren't you?) I wanted you to know that your Renaissance man John Cusack also writes poetry. And it's not bad!
Hope you all have wonderful weekends. Be nice to dogs!
Quickie post about AWZ. Again.
OMG!! [info]aldiara wrote the most gorgeous DeRo ficlet!! Go tell her how awesome it is and beg her to write more!
And the next subtitled clip is up -- [info]sdk, now you can see what happened after the, er, coitus interruptus.
Now back to work. *grumbles and slinks off*
Dear John
It's a John Barrowman kind of day -- I cannot resist posting this picture:
(From a quite nice interview in the Daily Mail.)
And I watched the latest Heroes.
Umkay... )
Still massively crushing over the Alles Was Zaehlt and found what I believe is the only English fanfic ever written in this fandom. And I'm not tempted, no, not at all...
While I waste my life on television, technology marches on. Here's Google's latest attempt to help you out with Mail Goggles to keep you from sending those embarrassing late-night booze-inspired emails. What do you think? Would that have saved you? Personally, I think it'd be much more useful to have a name blocker on google to prevent late-night booze-inspired searches. Those are never a good idea.
ETA: Rudy's had an exceptionally energetic day today -- he's feistier than he's been since that whole experience with the vet a few weeks ago. I don't know if it's the cooler weather or what, but I'm glad of it.
