It's Talk Like a Pirate Day.

But since I suck at languages of all sorts, instead have an episode of Warrior Women featuring Lucy Lawless' accent and Granuaile, Ireland's pirate queen.

Fandom rocks

Sometimes I forget just how bloody incredible fandom can be. It takes a reminder like this to see how this community, which is so diverse and so disparate, needs to be celebrated, for WE ARE AWESOME.

Hunger Games vid recs

With the release of the Hunger Games DVD, we should be getting some beautiful fanvids - this is a fandom that still knows how to make vids! Here is the first I've seen and it is truly stunning:

Link to the artist's page with download link.

Having said that, I still love the urgency of this one, made with a shaky cam. There's something so visceral and real about it, I think it just really captures the heart of the story.

Stunning fanvid

Also a brilliant write up of Sherlock in The Times: As one of the most dashing characters in literary history, however, Sherlock-facilitated Cumberbatch Love has never felt easier of more natural. He’s one of the cleverest men who ever lived! With the unexpectedly attractive quirk of being borderline sociopathic! In the first episode he thrashes a corpse with a riding crop by way of saying hello. He’s lavishly, wonkily beautiful, 900ft tall, has a voice like a jaguar hiding in a cello, and would clearly be able to work out in a second what a 15 per cent tip should be – even if the total were tricksy, such as an odd number, or ended in 78p or something.

IJ journal layouts

So I know a few of you new folks ([info]geekchick1013 and [info]tree1970 I think, and someone else who I can't remember) have been struggling with prettifying IJ layouts. This is not on! Would there be anybody interested in a tutorial on this? I'm not an expert on it by any means, but I have fumbled through enough to know how to do some stuff, and maybe others who are more experienced could chip in too.

Is there any interest in this?

Also, I cannot stop looping this song. Headphones make this magical. )

Pimping post

Lately some of the new folks on my flist have been talking about their introduction to gay films and TV, and I haven't seen any mention of two of my very favourites. So since I have a huge pile of work to do today, I thought it was high time for a pimping post.

There. I hope that you've enjoyed today's random act of procrastination. Find these films if you can, you won't be disappointed!

Oh, now that's cool!

Five happy things

I'm always grumping these days, I want to share some happy things for a change.

Happy Thing #1: And Then The Heroes Came Along: Superman and Batman land in the Pegasus Galaxy. Yeah, my head just went splodey over that idea, too. Very witty, lots of fanboy fun, and Batman in a jumper, wow!

Happy Thing #2: So as not to leave out my other favourite superhero, Wes Anderson does Spiderman. Perfectly done!

Happy Thing #3: Argentina, AWZ-style, where apparently mariachi music plays 24/7 and it's impossible to remove mustard stains from shirts. Oh, Axel, you have been missed. (Also, you totes know that if Axel was stuck down there, he would have called Nina long ago and begged for help. Hopefully he did and her girlfriend wouldn't let her out of bed to take the call.)

Happy Thing #4: [profile] redcouchaddict has been a vidding maniac lately! My favourite's this one: Walk Through the Fire, where AWZ goes Buffy. It's inspiring me to procastinate with a heartbreaking MaJe video response... not that I have TIME FOR THIS MIND YOU.

Happy Thing #5: I am learning lots of useful new German words like sklaventreiber. Which means I must go back to work now. But in a much better mood.

Glitter and handcuffs and fairy dust, oh my!

All my love for these guys? It has reached new heights of insanity with the utter fabulousness that is this video.

Also, apparently the way I say "Verbotene Liebe" sounds like "Forbidden Liver." *mad cackles*

DeRo mood theme

In this year's most random act of procrastination (so far), I spent pretty much the entire day making a DeRo mood theme out of Amber80's gorgeous screencaps on the GoDT board. If you're interested (and have a paid journal), you're welcome to download and use it. You can see samples on my IJ or DW. Instructions and the admin console commands are included in the zip file.

Also, EKP IS IN AWZ!!!!! We've been in three scenes already (in last week's episodes), but hidden way back in the background. In today's (and tomorrow's) episode we're a little more visible, if only for a few short seconds. Take a close look at 2:30, right at the start of the countdown -- I'm wearing the purple coat and black beret!

And I can't wait for tomorrow, when we're front and centre! SQUEEEEE!!!

The world sparkles today!

Yes, I know, another soapy post

Why do I love Alles was zählt so much? The incredibly talented [info - personal] shellydkitty has the answer to that question, in video form:

On a completely different note, are any of my Ottawa peeps in town for the long weekend? And if so, are you interested in heading up to the Hill and watching hot air balloons and eating gelato? It's supposed to be gorgeous both days, and I'm determined to squeeze every last drop out of this summer.

Reason #1937 that I love my soap

I'd hoped to do more for BBTP, but this completely waylaid me. Completely. No, not safe for work. At all.

Stuff for my peeps

I'd planned to spend the day reading Merlin Big Bang fics, but then the ex called this morning to remind me that it was Paddy's birthday (he's 10!) and did I want to go with them to the lake? I couldn't resist. So we went on up the line to the Prior and down to Calabogie (whose most recent claim to fame is that they've just added a Nascar collection to their massive adult book/videostore. I'm really hoping it's a separate collection because if there is Nascar porn, I don't want to know). The day was sunny and warm, and Paddy had the time of his life sniffing nasty beachside smells, and I had a cherry slushy from Dairy Queen, and all in all it was just a lovely day.

Here's the birthday boy looking sluttish:

I might also have gotten suckered into getting this. You know, I rarely buy impulsively for myself other than pizza or yarn, but if it's for my critters...

Anyway, I wanted this post to be about some goodies I've discovered, so here they are:

[info - personal] omarandjohnny, did you know there was an Alexander Skarsgård channel? It belongs to the lovely [info - personal] gealach_ros and she's translated a bunch of his hard-to-find Swedish films. My but he is tall and fabulous! If you've not visited it yet, go and stay awhile!

[info - personal] aldiara, I think you might enjoy this clip of Summer Glau dancing. It's a bit rough, but there are some really gorgeous scenes. She's got such exquisite control of her body!

[info - personal] kabal42, this is a few months old so you may've already seen this nice interview with Ben Winshaw.

Which I only came across while watching this interview with Vincent Cassel, who is animated and funny and not at all like I expected from such an intense actor. I don't know who among you are VC fans, but there must be somebody!

And last but not least, Zombies!! (Boosh fans don't miss the last shot!)

A mixed bag of an update

It's been ages since my last update -- and really I should go to bed, but after 1/2 of a bottle of prosecco, what better time to update?!

Lots of good things recently... let's see where to start:

-AWZ is off-the-charts brilliant these days. I could gush but Today's episode really says it all! )

-Making plans with [info - personal] takhys for Carnivàle Lune Bleue. (Must reread Geek Love before that!)

-Got a call yesterday from an old friend--she'd moved out to the country, which meant I never saw her, but she just recently moved back into the Glebe. Now we can hopefully be more social! We're going downtown soon to check out the Busking festival.

-re: said Busking festival: I was at the bank a few days ago behind a bunch of mimes. The RBC tellers have enough trouble when I talk to them, god knows how they handled miming!

-The Merlin Big Bang previews look AMAZING! I am so excited about all this!

-We made it through two days with almost no rain--could summer finally be here?

I really should go to bed now ... but it's much more amusing watching my catnip-crazed cat go nuts! *taunts her*

Sugar + caffeine = random post

For the past two days I've subsisted on nothing but coffee and Bourneville chocolates. I really need to go to the store tomorrow. In the meantime, my dear flist, you are getting an even more random post than usual. But it's filled with Things of the Awesome.

Thing of Awesome the First: India decriminalises homosexuality. Right on... and about time!

Thing of Awesome the Second (that is admittedly less awesome in the grand scheme of things, but still incredibly awesome for me personally): Chosenfire is my other BB artist!!!! Wow, wow, wow! Look at the stuff she's done for the SPN Big Bangs! Gorgeous, gorgeous stuff--how lucky am I? *pinches self*

There was something else, I know there was... Nope, it's gone. Now I am giving myself a three-day weekend... and after working 13 hours straight today brain's gone bye! Tomorrow, food!

(And kicking, [info - personal]aldiara, if you don't have a skating scene ready for me to read.)

ETA: I remembered!!! Eon's ago, [info - personal]gealach_ros asked me the five questions meme. Her questions:
1/ Top! or bottom!Arthur?
2/ Bradley plays theatre. What play would you like to see him in (i.e. which role do you think he'd be amazing in?)
3/ Time travel, whom'd you like to meet?
4/ The best thing about being Canadian is...?
5/ Do you sing out loud when you're driving alone in your car?

May. 25th, 2009

Oh Show! <33333

Just when I think our cracky ideas have gone off the deep end (Stella = veela, wtf?), you do something so completely crackfed that it leaves us all in your dust. How much do I love you?!!!

(Someday I will post something other than videos. I will, I promise!)

Rediscovering fandom squeee

Because my writing muse is deader than a doornail despite some fabulous pictures from the MCM Expo, I've decided to bury myself in our lovely DIY fandom. So here's a vid rec and some self-pimping!

First, [info] - personalshellydkitty made a gorgeously heartbreaking video: Jenny's In Love. It's about one of AWZ's main characters, who is stunning herself but in Shelly's hands becomes absolutely radiant. I'm just wowed by how good she's gotten at vidding!

Also, the music is by Botany Bay, who are new to me -- their music is available for free download and it's really good stuff.

And here's my own latest vidding attempt. I made this for [info] - personalshellydkitty's mom because she loves Deniz. And apparently doesn't mind all the boykissing -- of which there is plenty. YAY! It's about how Deniz continually fucks up leads Roman on, accidentally...or not. And the song was too perfect to pass up! (Richard Thompson's version, please note!)

And [info] - personalaldiara is back from her far-too-long vacation. Two days away! Unacceptable! Especially when there was massive squeeing to do! OH! I almost forgot to mention!! Eskimo Kiss Project just celebrated our six month anniversary AND we just passed 1000 subscriptions! I am so amazingly proud of our tiny fandom!! *cuddles it until it squeals*

Hope you're all enjoying your weekends!

Assorted links

Just some quickies because I really need to go to bed.

Fidelity: Don't Divorce: You've probably already seen this. It's lovely, you should probably watch it again, and then forward it to everybody you know. It makes me all sniffly.

Joss Whedon continues to rock my world: I still call my iPod "my Walkman." OK? I am old. I have gray in my beard -- which, by the way, is terribly sexy. (I'm especially amused by this because I often work with Wharton and they're all so serious, and don't have a clue what to do with Joss.)

Anything Sam can do, Sam can do better: Battle of the Life On Mars versions. I think you all know who I'm rooting for.

([info]sdk, that last one is for you. I also want you to watch this vid after you see 1x07. Will you flail as hard as I do?)

Feb. 5th, 2009

TW trailer

Warning: May induce uncontrollable flailing (esp. at 0:55) and prolonged periods of comatosity (is too a word, I said so). Do not imbibe if deadlines are looming.
